Routine visits to our dentist office in Tulsa, OK, aren’t just about dental cleanings and exams. They should also include patient comfort and patient education, as Kem, one of our dental hygienists, explains in the video below.
General dentistry can help you keep your mouth healthy, but we also want to show you how to stay healthy with good oral hygiene habits at home. We are happy to answer your questions and to demonstrate proper brushing and flossing techniques for you and your family.Read Transcript
I was a dental assistant for 17 years before I went back to hygiene school, so I had a lot of background that you don't get in hygiene school. I think part of it is getting to know them: we take our time, ask you questions, make sure everything's going good with them. If they have any questions for us, we want to be sure to answer them thoroughly for them and just make them feel comfortable. And I think a lot of people don't include that in their services. That makes a huge difference: that people are comfortable.
We just teach patients how to maintain the health of their teeth and their gums. It's not just related to their mouth when we're talking about taking care of their health of their mouth; it relates to their entire system. We educate people on that and let them know that flossing isn't just getting the food out of your teeth. It really—it has to do with your blood stream, and infection, and keeping it under control, and everything else.
It's a life changing thing, especially when someone hasn't been shown that and we tell them what to do to take care of it. It can actually change their lives; people don't even think about that. They kind of disassociate their mouth with the rest of their body sometimes. We help them put two and two together.
